Sorrow of a Lost War
© Jerry Fielden 1976 SOCAN

Raising an army on the shoulders of poor men
The King makes his way to a sullen battlefield
Treacherous roads and highwaymen they fear
So many obstacles on the road to victory

CHORUS
But the war was lost
And children never born
Lives were destroyed
And hope forlorn
x2

The enemy is near, the hosts are set to fight
At daybreak trumpets blare, red banners in the air
A bloody clash ensues, a sea of bodies strewn
The old King's life ended, his head thrown on a pike

CHORUS
SYNTH LEAD
CHORUS
GUITAR LEAD

The knights are fleeing fast and leaving serfs to die
The villages are torched so nowhere to return to
With carnage and rape the enemy has won
For hundreds of years this soil is ever-barren
